IPTV Service Regulations

Last updated:

This page outlines the regulatory framework under which StreamIPTV operates in Canada and the United States, including applicable telecommunications laws, content obligations, and user responsibilities.

1 Applicable Legal Framework

StreamIPTV operates as a technology and internet-based media delivery service. Our operations are subject to the following regulatory frameworks:

  • Canada: The Telecommunications Act (R.S.C., 1993, c. 38), the Broadcasting Act (S.C. 1991, c. 11) as amended, CRTC regulations and broadcasting policy frameworks.
  • United States: Federal Communications Commission (FCC) guidelines applicable to internet-delivered video content.
  • Privacy: Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws.
  • Consumer Protection: Applicable provincial consumer protection legislation in Canada and applicable state laws in the USA.

2 CRTC Compliance & Canadian Broadcasting Policy

Canada's broadcasting and telecommunications regulatory environment is supervised by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). StreamIPTV acknowledges and respects the following CRTC policy positions:

  • The CRTC regulates traditional broadcasting undertakings but has historically exempted internet-distributed audiovisual services from broadcaster licensing requirements under the Exemption Order for Digital Media Broadcasting Undertakings (DMBU).
  • Under the Online Streaming Act (Bill C-11, now in force), certain online streaming services may be subject to new CRTC obligations regarding Canadian content contributions. StreamIPTV monitors ongoing CRTC implementation guidelines and will comply with applicable requirements as they come into force.
  • StreamIPTV does not distribute content in a manner that bypasses or circumvents Canadian content (CanCon) rules applicable to licensed broadcasters.

3 Content Responsibility & User Obligations

Users of StreamIPTV services are responsible for ensuring their use complies with all applicable local, provincial, federal, and international laws. Specifically:

  • Users must not use the service to access, reproduce, or distribute content in violation of copyright law (Copyright Act, R.S.C. 1985, c. C-42 in Canada; 17 U.S.C. in the USA).
  • The service is strictly for personal, non-commercial use unless the user has entered into a reseller agreement with StreamIPTV.
  • Sharing credentials or simultaneous connections beyond the purchased limit is prohibited and may result in account termination without refund.
  • Users must not attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or automate access to the service's infrastructure.

StreamIPTV collects and processes personal data in accordance with Canada's PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy legislation. Key principles:
