Use this method only if your app truly is not listed there, and only from its maker’s website.
1
Press the Home button
Find the button with a small picture of a house on your remote, and press it. The main screen appears. This button always brings you back if you feel lost.
2
Open Settings
Press up until you reach the small gear picture at the top of the screen, and press the OK button. On some TVs, it is on the far right. You can also press the gear button if your remote has one.
3
Open About
Choose System, then About. Some TVs list it directly under Settings.
4
Turn on developer options
Move to Android TV OS Build, and press OK seven times. A message says you are now a developer. It sounds technical, but it only reveals a hidden menu.
5
Install a download tool
Go to the app store, search for Downloader by AFTVnews and install it. It is free. It lets your TV fetch an app from a website.
6
Allow the tool to install apps
In Settings, go to Apps, Security & Restrictions, then Unknown Sources. Turn it on for Downloader only.
7
Download from the official website
Open Downloader, and type the address from the app maker’s website. If you are not sure which is official, message us first.
8
Install the app
When the download ends, choose Install. If your TV warns of something harmful, stop and choose Cancel. Otherwise, wait until it says App Installed.
9
Turn the permission off
Return to Unknown Sources and turn Downloader off. You can turn it on again if you need it later. This keeps your TV safer.
