1
Know the numbers
Speed is measured in Mbps. Plan for about 15 Mbps for each HD picture, and about 25 Mbps for 4K. Your internet bill should list your plan’s speed.
2
Add up your screens
If two TVs and a phone may play at once, add them up. Leave some room for other devices. Most homes are comfortable with 100 Mbps or more.
3
Check how fast yours is
Our guide “How to Run a Speed Test” shows you how. Test beside the TV, in the evening, because that is when it matters most.
4
Compare with your plan
If the test at your TV shows far less than your plan, the problem is probably your Wi-Fi rather than your internet company.
5
Do not rush to pay for more
A faster plan will not fix weak Wi-Fi. Try moving the internet box, or using a cable, before you pay for an upgrade.
