If you only want to watch TV, TiviMate or Smarters are easier. Choose Kodi if you enjoy customizing.
1
Check that you are ready
You need two things first: the Downloader app, and permission for it to install apps. If you are not sure, follow our article “Full Steps to Install Downloader App on Fire TV Stick” first, then come back here.
2
Open Downloader
Press the Home button. Hold it down for two seconds, then choose Apps. Find the orange Downloader picture, and press Select to open it.
3
Select the address box
You will see a white box near the top, with a message inviting you to enter an address. Move to it with the arrows, and press Select. A keyboard appears on the screen.
4
Type kodi.tv
Type kodi.tv and press Go. This is Kodi’s official website. Never download Kodi from any other site. Other copies, often called “builds”, can contain harmful software.
5
Find the Android download
Move down the page to Download, then choose Android. The website is built for computers, so moving around takes patience. Use the arrows, and press Select on a link to open it.
6
Choose ARMV7A (32-bit)
Choose the version called ARMV7A, or 32-bit. That is the right one for most sticks. If you later see a “parse error”, delete it and try the 64-bit version instead.
7
Wait for the download
A bar shows progress. This file is large, so give it a few minutes. Please keep the stick connected, and do not press anything.
8
Choose Install
A new screen appears, asking if you want to install this app. Move to the word Install, and press Select. If you see a warning that names a virus, stop, choose Cancel and message us.
9
Choose Done
When the screen says the app is installed, choose Done. Do not choose Open yet, because we want to tidy up first. If you pressed Open by mistake, press the Back button.
10
Delete the leftover file
Downloader now offers to delete the installer file. Choose Delete, then Delete again to confirm. This only removes the leftover file. Your new app stays installed, and your stick gets some storage space back.
11
Open Kodi
Press and hold Home, choose Apps, then select Kodi. The first start can take a minute. Next, follow our guide on adding your channels to Kodi.
