1
Try what you already own
First, use your phone, tablet or Smart TV during your free trial. If it works well, you may not need anything else.
2
Think about your TV
Look for an HDMI port on the TV. If your TV has one, a small device can add all the apps you need, even if the TV is old.
3
Fire TV Stick
This is small and inexpensive. Choose one running Fire OS, such as the 4K Plus or 4K Max. Newer models with Vega OS cannot install the apps in our guides.
4
Android TV or Google TV
These have an app store built in, which makes installing apps simpler. Sony, TCL and others build it into their TVs. Separate boxes are also sold.
5
Apple TV
This costs more and is a good choice if you use an iPhone or iPad. Apps come only from the App Store.
6
Check before you pay
Look for at least 2 GB of memory if it is listed, and a way to connect a network cable. Avoid boxes sold “fully loaded” with free channels, as they can be a legal and security risk.
