If you have two remotes on the couch, this step lets you put one away. Your stick needs to learn what TV you own, and it does this for you.
Start
Press the Home button
On your Fire TV remote, find the button with a small picture of a house. Press it once. The main Fire TV screen appears. If you ever feel lost, this button always brings you back here.
Open Settings
Press the right side of the round ring on your remote until you reach the small gear picture on the top row. Then press the middle of the ring. This middle button is called Select, and it works like “OK”.
Open Equipment Control
Press the arrows to find Equipment Control, and press Select.
Choose Manage Equipment
Choose Manage Equipment, then TV. If it asks you to change or add a TV, choose Change TV.
Follow the test
The stick plays music and asks you to press the volume buttons. It may ask you to press power, too. Answer Yes or No truthfully, as it uses your answers to find the right setting.
Choose your TV’s brand
If asked, choose your TV’s brand from the list. If yours is not there, look for Other. It may take two or three tries.
Test the buttons
Press volume up and down on the Fire TV remote. Press the power button too. If they work, you are done.
Final step
If it does not work
Some older TVs do not respond to this. Keep using your TV’s own remote for volume. That is fine, and nothing else is affected.
