A good setup makes a big difference for someone who is new to streaming. A little care now means fewer phone calls later.

Start

Keep their old service during the test

Do not cancel anything until they are comfortable. It removes the pressure, and they can always go back.

Ask what they watch

Ask for their favourite channels and shows. Check these first, during the free trial. They do not care about 40,000 channels. They care about their own five.

Use one device and one app

Set up a single simple app, and remove anything else from the home screen. Fewer choices mean fewer mistakes.

Add their favourites

Put their channels in a favourites list, in the order they prefer. Set it so that this list opens first, if the app allows it.

Write a simple card

Write the steps in large letters on a card: “Press the house. Press TV. Press OK.” Leave it by the TV. Include your phone number.

Stay for the first evening

Let them hold the remote. If you do it for them, they will not remember it. Come back in a week to answer questions.

Final step

Warn them about scams

Tell them not to pay anyone who calls about their TV. Ask them to call you before they send money or allow access to their device.
