A firewall is your computer’s security guard. Sometimes it blocks a TV app by mistake. Here is how to fix that without turning your protection off.
Start
Test with VLC first
Try your link in VLC, using our VLC guide. If VLC plays but your other app does not, the problem is with that app’s permissions.
Open the Start menu
Click the Windows symbol at the bottom left of your screen. Type the word “firewall”.
Open the right setting
Click “Allow an app through Windows Firewall”.
Click Change Settings
Click the Change Settings button at the top. Windows may ask for permission, so click Yes.
Find your app
Look through the list for your TV app. Tick the box under Private. If it is not listed, click Allow Another App, then browse to it.
Click OK and test
Click OK, close the window, then try your app. Please do not turn the firewall off entirely.
Final step
Check your antivirus
If you have Norton, McAfee or similar, it may have its own firewall. Look in its settings, or ask a family member to help.
