Some people find the moving adverts and sounds on the Home screen distracting. You can turn most of them off.

Start

Press the Home button

On your Fire TV remote, find the button with a small picture of a house. Press it once. The main Fire TV screen appears. If you ever feel lost, this button always brings you back here.

Open Settings

Press the right side of the round ring on your remote until you reach the small gear picture on the top row. Then press the middle of the ring. This middle button is called Select, and it works like “OK”.

Open Preferences

Press the arrows to find Preferences, and press Select. Some models call this Device & Software, or similar.

Open Featured Content

Choose Featured Content. This area controls what plays at the top of the Home screen.

Turn off video autoplay

Choose Allow Video Autoplay and press Select so that it says Off.

Turn off audio autoplay

Choose Allow Audio Autoplay and set it to Off, too. Now the screen stays quieter when you are moving around.

Press the Home button

On your Fire TV remote, find the button with a small picture of a house. Press it once. The main Fire TV screen appears. If you ever feel lost, this button always brings you back here.

Final step

Check the difference

The Home screen should now be calmer. Pictures may still change, as Amazon still shows adverts there. They just should not play sound by themselves.
