Buffering means the picture stops while more video loads. Most of the time, the cause is Wi-Fi, a full stick or heat. It is rarely your internet plan. Test a channel after each step.

Start

Try a different channel

If only one channel freezes, that channel may be the problem. Tell us its name and the time. If all channels freeze, continue with these steps.

Restart the stick

Hold the Select and Play/Pause buttons together for five seconds. Once it restarts, test a channel.

Restart your internet box

Unplug your internet box from the wall. Wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait two or three minutes until its lights settle, then test a channel again.

Clear the app’s cache

Go to Settings, Applications, Manage Installed Applications, then your TV app. Choose Clear Cache. Our cache guide shows every press.

Check your free space

Go to Settings, My Fire TV, About, Storage. If you have less than 1 GB free, follow our storage guide. A full stick stutters even on great internet.

Move the stick away from the TV

If the stick is pressed against the back of the TV, use the extender cable from the box. This improves the Wi-Fi signal and helps it stay cool.

Move closer to your internet box

If possible, move your internet box closer to the TV, or clear away what is around it. Metal cupboards and closets block Wi-Fi.

Try a cable

If it freezes mostly in the evening, an Ethernet adapter is often the answer. Our guide explains what to buy.

Final step

Still need help?

That is completely fine. Tell us the channel and the time, and we can look into it. Message us on WhatsApp or by email, any day from 6 AM to 11 PM Eastern Time. Tell us your device and what you see on the screen. A photo of the TV screen helps a lot.
