The default settings usually work well. Change these only if you have a problem, and change one thing at a time.
Start
Press the Home button
On your Fire TV remote, find the button with a small picture of a house. Press it once. The main Fire TV screen appears. If you ever feel lost, this button always brings you back here.
Open Settings
Press the right side of the round ring on your remote until you reach the small gear picture on the top row. Then press the middle of the ring. This middle button is called Select, and it works like “OK”.
Open Display & Sounds
Press the arrows to find Display & Sounds, and press Select.
Open Display
Choose Display, then Video Resolution. It usually says Auto, which is the best choice for most TVs. Leave it alone unless your screen flickers or goes black.
Fix a flickering screen
If your screen flickers, choose a lower number, such as 1080p. Your TV shows a test image and asks whether you can see it. If you do nothing, the setting goes back after a few seconds, so you cannot get stuck.
Open Audio
Press Back, then choose Audio. These settings matter if you get no sound on some channels or if your soundbar crackles.
Change Dolby Digital Output
Choose Dolby Digital Output, then try Dolby Digital Plus Off. Test a channel. If there is no improvement, set it back to Best Available.
Final step
Test your picture
Open your TV app and try a sports channel and a news channel. If you do not notice any improvement, go back and leave the settings on Auto.
